They're just prettier versions of all the other Shimano skewers. I think the last skewers I bought were black XT ones. Depends if you're buying for looks or function.

You're right, the important part is the enclosed cam. Saying so, I feel a little more special removing my DA skewers than my non-series ones.

I have a bunch of posh as titanium ones that just sit in box. Gimme the scuffed up, old, non-series, OEM Shimano ones :)
