IHG would be tricky without a cable stop on the chainstay.

You say that, but both the Shimano and Rolloff don't use them.

Was thinking more Sturmey Archer, to suit the aesthetic.

Uh. Yeah. Of course. I don't think you need a stop for them either, but could be wrong.
