Not so loner fifer now. I’m in Dunfermline and always up for generally Tomfoolery on two wheels.

@rwn Giant Tcx. No bad with skinny tyres on the road. No bad with 40c tyres on gravel.

I have been looking at some CX/"adventure" bikes... The TCX looks about right but I wonder how it might handle with 15kg of child over the back wheel... (Also does it have a non-circular seat tube? If so it's a non-starter cos of child seat clamp)

Its a d profile tube. SO may get away with it?

Plenty other options in that market like the new arkose.
