I commute on 63 x 14 around London
But... why? I am fairly confident in stating that you are not holding a 30mph average on a London commute. So at 20mph you are holding a cadence of like 58... isn't that incredibly inefficient? And I very honestly doubt you even get up a true 13% gradient at all, this is a ratio of 4.5, or 120 gear inches - if you do, you should be a national sprint champion.
I mean, you do you... it just seems very impractical especially for a commute.
Btw, Bowdler in that pic has a 77t chainring, but yeah, he seems to love low cadences. But that's for a TT!

Just wanted a big chainring up front- thought it would look cool on a fixed tt rig. I commute on 63 x 14 around London which isn't too bad apart from when you have a headwind on a 13%er for 0.6 miles - that hurts
Besides 70 is quite normal compared to someone like 'Big ring Bowdler' running a 86 as shown here: http://blog.daum.net/fatastico/13
