  • Hey @giofox - nope, in short, no update on this. As mentioned it was / is, just a big idea at the moment. Loads of considerations to take in, and life has taken a slightly different course lately, but maybe I'm procrastinating It is certainly still ticking over in my head.

    Fizzy's view did make me give some further thought to this, I questioned myself quite a bit and went off the idea for a while. I do see that point of view and I've thought the same myself when I've read about or watched similar things other people have done in the past. I don't disagree, but I think it depends on how it is approached.

    It's good to see other points of view here too. I'm lucky enough to have done a fair bit of travelling before, and I think / hope I've been pretty respectful and been aware of my privilege. I've lived with a few families for periods, learned another language, and got involved in stuff. I've not taken it hard when I've been mugged, ripped off, or the butt of a joke. I try think about how I spend my cash and where it goes etc. But I didn't start the thread wanting to explain why I was thinking about doing this and going into personal stuff on here. (Would be happy to in person).

    Anyway, @kl , I read your mate's book - enjoyed it. I wouldn't want to race it like he did! It was was well written I breezed through it. Quite encouraging too (other than the bit about getting stones thrown at you in Ethiopia - read two accounts of that now). Thanks for that.

    I see a few people have posted other things above - I'll get through those too - thanks all.

    @giofox I also looked at that TDA global cycling tour before - as I say, I think quite a few people do actually do this route. Didn't realise they had the GPS files up though - cheers for stitching them together - genius from you! I just copied it. Will also pm you about a beer.

  • I’ve run through Ethiopia and Somalia, had a great time. One guy in a tree threw a stone at me once, I chased him hurling rocks and guess he’ll think twice before doing it again. Every other person was fantastic. Also in Ghana when I went running there.

    @Pawlus - racist troll fail.
