  • But still people find a way of living there as well, so there ultimately is a way of visiting/crossing even such places, just with more awareness than other places.

It's not much of an argument though, is it? Local fishermen sail off the coast of Somalia, do you honestly think a western yacht would encounter no more risk than them in the same waters?

And as you mention Pakistan, it is worth bearing in mind that your very presence can also put other people's lives at risk (as mentioned by Emily Chapell). Which not acceptable.

I am in no way telling people not to cross Africa, I think it has the potential for a safe and wonderful adventure. All the same don't go and sneer at people who have a concern for safety.

  • Yours isn't much of an argument either, such an impaired comparison would generate a similar reaction in most parts of the world, including developed countries.

I am not sneering at people concerned about safety, especially others', like argumented by Emily. But I cannot tolerate a negative outlook onto humanity, that extrapolates bits of information regarding episodes to final sentaces on entire regions or countries.

    People are good by nature.

  • Indeed. The kindness and generosity of strangers is something that all cycling travellers seem to talk about upon their return.
