I like mad weight-weenie racing Brommies as much as the next forumite, but the appeal is largely because the bike itself isn't exactly a racehorse (cf. the BWC).

Absolutely - I'd be off the back in seconds! - but isn't the appeal that of people going fast despite riding comedy foldy bikes?
