You do NOT need ECC RAM for a Microserver Gen7 (N54L, N40L, N36L). And it costs about double. Are you all incapable of finding the answer somewhere vaguely definitive?

Non-ECC RAM is compatible .. Does not support registered (buffered) modules.
[Edit: admittedly, you need ECC if you are supplementing the supplied ECC 2GB with a second stick]
[Edit 2: I wrote half that page because I found out the hard way, and also bought non-ECC for my Gen 8, which does need ECC]

I was assuming he was pairing it with the existing RAM which is ECC. Also what's recommended here https://www.mrmemory.co.uk/memory-ram-upgrades/hp/proliant/microserver-g7-n54l
(Crucial don't have any info on it).

You'll probably need DDR3 1333MHz ECC. Take note of the "ECC", bog standard RAM isn't normally ECC.
