I bought a TEC components aheadset for my Raleigh Titanium almost 15 years ago, sadly the bike shop lost the expander ring/collar rendering it useless as it was specific to the headset so I had it removed as they'd stupidly fitted it after figuring out they'd lost the part.grrrr. This was after contacting TEC (which had gone into administration and reformed minus lots of the old stock etc) and a few Italian cycling forums to see if I could locate the part.
Years later I met up with an old school friend who worked for BAe and she had one of her aircraft engineers make the part for me. It's not absolutely perfect, it seems that the skill level of Italian bicycle component makers are far in excess of East Yorkshire aircraft builders!
I'd already had an FRM headset fitted by then and it's sat in in its box ever since. It's a thing of beauty IMO, ridiculously smooth but no home to go to, I've also got some matching NOS Chris King alu steerer spacers.
