    Could be right, but not going to mess with it, as might thread something.

  • That's what the 10mm is there for….it's basically a locknut that allows you to remove the crank (with the 8mm) without needing a crank puller. If you take the 10mm out, then the 8mm…..you won't be able to get the crank off without a puller! (Hope that helps!)
