I'd go with Alpha on this one too... a 24hr spell in a plastic bag in the freezer should help to neutralise pong.
I'd also reckon they wouldn't do your washing machine any favours. I'm still getting the blame for breaking our washing machine from washing DH trousers so I'm guessing the shoes definitely won't do much good!
