• Wow! I thought the outer ring on a Shimano double is meant to be at 46mm and the inner 41mm (well, the older 5-arm ones...) Your evidence suggests current 4-arm ones are different: needless to say I'll be avoiding that combo ;-) I can't tell from @.kerley's photo if ring is in outer (better looks) or inner (better chainline) position.

  • Go for converted front disc hubs as rear,adjustable chainline(with spacers or dishing)and no fear of stripped cogs

  • Yea been using a converted Deore M525 as a rear for a while on my Pomp, going to rebuild that hub (and a front M510) onto a pair of Kinlin ADHNs this weekend for use as the above bike's winter/beater wheels.
    EDIT: above wheels are Novatec bolt-on track hubs on DT R460/R460DB with alloy nips. They're fine but a little bit nice for use in really foul weather.
