I was the same, until I got my head around to stop thinking that it was a replacement for one of my road bikes. If you need to carry stuff when you are riding the Brom, I recommend the luggage block and one of the bags they offer ( I have a C Bag, with S bars).

I have just a piddly Brompton Ortlieb Mini O bag and when loaded I was surprised at the difference this made to the handling.

I still find it disturbing when I turn the handlebars and the bag stays where it is. Quite weird.
