Big apples are nice enough. Smooth rolling, drop the pressure and they help over bumpy stuff. Not the lightest. Always wanted to stick some 2.3 Schwalbe Ones on but mudguards would have been a right faff. It was already difficult with the 2.15 apples. Nothing some concerted problem solving couldn't sort though.

Cheers everyone, @Scrabble that's nice. Already have two drop bar gravel/all road bikes so this will be dedicated flat bar commuter.
How are the big apples? Tyres and guards combo is my main conundrum at the moment.
@t0-ster had a frame bag on commuter before and it got nicked, so ideally a basket with bag that can be taken out easily. Then maybe saddlebag, but also in anticipation of child seat or trailer attachment, want ability to carry up front.
Current Direction is looking along these lines, but less luggage and less Surly:
