  • A downhill skier in full flight is quite a sight, I’ll grant you. But any sport where you’ve only got one participant going at any one time feels a bit one dimensional. It differ for me in that I have skiied (badly) but could never summon the minerals to get on a luge and have a crack at that.

I think I enjoy sports where competitors can exert a bit of pressure on one another either mentally or physically.

  • Fair observations. I think I'm biased because I go to ski world cup events as a spectator and they are fantastically fun piss ups in the snow.

I was fortunate enough to go down the Calgary olympic sliding track in a bobsleigh in 2009. Well, a big percent of it anyway as they don't take rookies down the full length. Scary as hell.

Edit: just looked at the web site for the Olympic complex in Calgary and it was the last ten turns that I did. 70mph and 4G they say. Think it cost me about 150 CAD. Pricey per second...

  • Nice. Bet it feels waaay faster that close to the ice in a tin can.

Another observation: the speed skaters wear really shit helmets. They look like they were £15 from Halfords or free with a Raleigh Lizard.
