Yep You are totally right - logically it makes sense, I’m also familiar with that frustration. I think I already know I’ll end up with the Principia. I guess if I was being logical and sensible , I would sell it all and get something like a Pinnacle on the bike to work scheme. But like at lot of you I like building up outdated parts and wasting a little money but having some fun doing it :)

Cannondale is cool but from personal experience of trying to shoe-horn ‘guards into tight clearance frames that were never intended for them - pick the Principa.
Build the ‘dale up with a shiney groupset, silver wheels and ride it in summer.
