apologies for the lack of update on this, turns out the derailleur hanger was bent and the shifter needed some declogging beyond my expertise. this was all sorted months ago but it's taken me until now to get some better photos sorted.
I'm still on the lookout for some bottle cages that will go nicely with the greyish metal of the 1055 - any suggestions would be much appreciated...!
