  • I need some advice!

So Patch is always an outdoor cat and she always insists of going to the toilet outside or she just holds it in (I have had to lock her in pre and post op and sometimes I just forgot to unlock the flap etc). There is always a clean litter tray there just in case and I replace the litter once a month or so to keep it fresh even when it's not been touched at all.

BUT! Since Sunday, she has been using the tray pretty much bang on 7:45am every monring and I think she used it one evening at well. The only change is the type of litter because the usual stuff ran out from the shop. Could it be the reason why she's started using the tray again? Because she hated the old type of litter and loves the new stuff?

I still don't understand why would she only use it once a day? Because this suggests to me she still goes to the toilet outside.

There is nothing wrong with the wee as far as I can see, no blood, no more or less than what I'd expect, so I am sure she is physically healthy.

I don't want to call the vet because I have done it a few times in the past for worry over nothing and everytime I call, they make very detailed note of our conversations and that's good because just in case nothing turns into something, but I have been caught out by the insurance company and they have imposed exclusions on my policy because I have very casually mention somehting that isn't a problem medically (and confirmed by the vet), but the insurer chooses to interpret it in a way that benefits them. So I don't want to have to go down that arguing and explaining route again unless I have to.

Any idea other than she is a cat therefore she is a jerk?

  • I have read that a change in litter can have the opposite effect, ie the cat is used to one type and doesn't like the change. I would stick with this new litter as Patch is using it and don't want to disrupt things.

Sounds like Patch is going outside and in, which I would say is normal. Ours almost always go in the tray indoors but have caught them doing it in the garden!!

It doesn't sound like there is anything to worry about. Main thing is that she going!
