I have no idea what the case might be there. Fakes planted in excavation, or suspected fakes, are, of course, nothing new. A famous one is the 'Roman head' 'found' at Calixtlahuaca:

It is quite amazing how much confusion something like this can cause. There's still no consensus on what the truth is here.

Ha, no idea what the case is with that one. Schliemann was obviously a fantasist and crook, so in a sense the prosecution doesn't have to do much to prove its case. Judging from a quick trawl of sites about it, those against authenticity have become much more vociferous in recent years.
