I have no idea what the case might be there. Fakes planted in excavation, or suspected fakes, are, of course, nothing new. A famous one is the 'Roman head' 'found' at Calixtlahuaca:

It is quite amazing how much confusion something like this can cause. There's still no consensus on what the truth is here.
