• I have no idea what the case might be there. Fakes planted in excavation, or suspected fakes, are, of course, nothing new. A famous one is the 'Roman head' 'found' at Calixtlahuaca:

    It is quite amazing how much confusion something like this can cause. There's still no consensus on what the truth is here.

  • Ha, no idea what the case is with that one. Schliemann was obviously a fantasist and crook, so in a sense the prosecution doesn't have to do much to prove its case. Judging from a quick trawl of sites about it, those against authenticity have become much more vociferous in recent years.
