Picked up a direct drive turbo three weeks ago to assist in remaining competitive following arrival of baby no2 in October. Prior to turbo'ing I was just under 74kg (race weight around 73kg) and in decent shape out of season/being a dad to a new baby again.
Since getting the turbo my outdoor riding has dwindled to pretty much nothing (due to fatherhood duties/weather). So it's just been turbo sessions when I get a chance. These have certainly been at higher intensity than previous training purely because I can be a bit specific and have a reduced amount of time.
As a result I'm definitely leaner (assessed via mirror and highly technical belly pinch) but I've put on just over a kilo in weight. As a result of the leaner thing I'm assuming this is muscle gain. I'm focussing mainly on track and crits next year so muscle bulk isn't necessarily a hugely bad thing (I suck at Hog Hill anyway) but it's quite a lot to put on in 3 weeks I think?
So basically is this normal from turbo training (if you're susceptible to putting on muscle)? Will this natural trajectory see me putting on another 10kg in 30 weeks (not entirely serious)? I like being more roadie shape than track lump (no offence to track lumps).
Turbo training question...
