If there's no signs of impending failure, and the last service came up alright, then it's just unlucky timing, surely?

@Pifko I was trying to find that out, but seems it all depends on how it is advertised etc.

Yes, no signs of impending failure, other brother who is a mechanic looked it over, and seemed to think it was OK.
Bugger for him then, that's £1k gone then.
