I don't know much about OMV but I would guess that if you want to use that distro as your base but also do things it's (probably) not explicitly designed to do (i.e. Torrent, Plex, etc.) then you will need to get your hands dirty with code stuff. Pi's are designed to be tinkered with so it's part of the deal really. There are of course some exceptions (e.g. my Pi running OSMC is more or less entirely GUI-driven, and even has a remote control). Given the popularity of the Pi there are loads of websites with useful info. For learning your way around Linux then the Raspberry Pi website is a great resource to get you going.
