The correct aka hippy method is described thusly:
Big bowl, full of apple-based dessert FOLLOWED BY custard or ice cream.
The only exception to this rule is if whipped cream is available then it shall gain a place on the apple-based dessert.
No other variations permitted.

The real issue of contention - custard, ice cream or cream with that crumble?
Custard is the spunk of satan. Cream if you must, ice cream is just fucking pointless, too cold to eat with hot apple dessert and basically turns into custard if you leave it to warm up.
And @hippy; turnovers, slices, etc. are snacks, not desserts. Nowt wrong with them, they just belong on a different list.
