  • Ah, it's Lambourn instead of Membury Services, so you'd go to the Lambourn control and then head straight to Newbury, blat along the A4 all the way to Taplow and the up to Gerrard's Cross that way

Though after what happened on flatlands maybe I should avoid even having the option of an A road detour.

Entries are still open. Might be more interesting than a solo 400 if you can make it to Blackpool!

I did just notice that and gave a little thought to driving up Friday afternoon. But then remembered that family commitments mean I need to be back by 4 on Sunday which rules it out. Which is probably a good thing as I'm going to suffer even doing a 400. After LEL I've mostly been eating...

I've done a couple of night start 400s which work quite well for me (as I'm slow, fairly good with sleep deprivation, terrible at sleeping on cue). But can't work out how that'd translate to a 600. I guess I'd try and do a couple of short sleeps over the weekend.

I'm hoping to be done by 4pm Sunday myself as I have a train back to Aberdeen to catch

Accidents can happen anywhere. The road they were diverted off was closed because of an accident itself.

I thought the A4 between Newbury and Maidenhead was actually rather nice to cycle along, can't remember anything particularly bad at all although it was 2am to 6am so traffic was rather light.

I did a 9pm start 600 and it worked well. Ride through first night, half hour nap at 8am, then 3 or 4 hours the second night, around 470km
