I got a second-hand MBP because it offered the best performance/HW spec for the price compared to a new Windows laptop. YMMV.

Well that isn't very surprising. Shouldn't you have compared a second-hand non-Mac laptop too?

I always buy 2nd hand (good condition/refurbished) ThinkPads. About £300 for something high end a couple of years previously.

Absolutely! Though one big factor in my decision was that I'd never used an Apple product and wanted to see what all the fuss was about.

There were other criteria as well, but yeah, I'm not really arsed about an Apple vs. PC debate.
