Haven't used Strava Route Planner but I do navigate off my phone. I use OsmAnd on Android which is not the most user friendly but allows you to upload GPX routes to follow. I rely on voice directions but a bar mount would be fine so long as your phone battery is up to the job. I also frequently miss turns and get lost, it's all part of the fun.
