It's for an audax/gravel bike that I'm planning. Mostly for road use, but with the expectation that I might end up on gravel/hardpack from time to time, particularly if I take it to South America.
That sounds rad enough that it might be worthwhile - I think dammit runs a 10-42 cassette on his CAAD12 in the Rockies, so you can definitely get the gear range. Might be hard to source spares in SA though.
The spares thing is a bit of a concern, yeah, but reading up on the SRAM Force stuff, it seems to be quite compatible with other cassettes, and they don't use a proprietary spider pattern which is also a plus. So I'm beginning to think that could be a good option, actually.
