  • Lighter, less parts to wear out, cheaper (maybe), less likely to get gunked up with mud (from cyclocross). Probably pretty marginal improvements most of the time though, what do you plan to use it for?

  • It's for an audax/gravel bike that I'm planning. Mostly for road use, but with the expectation that I might end up on gravel/hardpack from time to time, particularly if I take it to South America.

  • That sounds rad enough that it might be worthwhile - I think dammit runs a 10-42 cassette on his CAAD12 in the Rockies, so you can definitely get the gear range. Might be hard to source spares in SA though.

    Definitely worth looking into then: (modern) 1xn originated in the off-road world.
