Cheers for the input Gents, I'm confident I installed the cranks in question properly and they seemed fine when I removed them last, but will take extra care when fitting this second set and report back. What should I be looking out for though? I usually just check the cranks are seated fully, but that the BB spindle isn't bottoming out on the inside of the crank, then tighten up. I don't have a torque wrench so can't gauge the exact amount of force I'm using but just try not to over do it...

As has been said, any deformation at all is fatal. If this happens out of the blue it is 99% an installation error, either under or over tightening. There is no going back.
