Thanks Max, yep I agree, cranks seem to be the issue and the buyer did say the sound seemed to come from that area. Can anyone clarify the situation with JIS and ISO tapers? I'm worried that after switching out the chainsets the second chainset will get damaged somehow. My understanding is most chainsets and BB's are JIS tapered, but that if there was a problem mating cranks and BB the cranks don't seat fully... the original chainset seemed to fit snugly and properly down on both spindles.

Damaged tapers on cranks loosen themselves with pedaling, no amount of bolt tightening will keen them attached!
