So I can technically make any chain line
With an M8000 or similar crank, where the chainring bolts to the inside face of the spider, you could move the chainline inboard by an arbitrary amount by using longer screws and spacers without having to mess with shifting the Q about. With older XT cranks where the outer and middle rings are on the same PCD, you can use the middle position and spacers to get 42mm.

So I can technically make any chain line, but this will affect the non drive side q factor detrimentally....depending on clearing chainstays etc.
