Possibly. Not really sure to be honest. Last time I delved into it was at uni when we were building a mates dragster Fiat. Something to do with hot gasses travelling faster when contained. If it wasn't so miserable out there, I'd be looking to remove mine. Makes the bike stink, and I'm pretty sure the job wasn't proper, as the smell of fuel is pretty ripe and I'm getting shit mileage.
Your scrambler looks amazing and everything, but how long do you think you can stop your hands itching?

Is there really any performance benefit? Everything I've read says to the contrary - ie if anything it = a decrease in performance.
In which case it's 100% about aesthetics, and people can make their own mind up on how the things looks.
As to protecting the pipes I'm sure I've read some aftermarket exhausts won't warrant wrapped pipes.
