That was a Tesla with "steering assist" mode turned on which isn't exactly the same thing but I get your point. Tesla have already said they will immediately improve this feature. It was a camera only type deal and not with radar type systems that the full automated systems will hopefully have in place. Tragic story though

I think that self driving cars have got a very long way to go before they are completely safe! I think the technology is still in its infancy. I read in the news a few months back that someone got killed when they switched their car to self drive mode because it hit a lorry which was white. The cars computer could not tell the difference between the sky and the white painted side of the lorry. But I have heard that improvements are now in place such as the use of radar to detect other vehicles. But I think it will be a very long time before they are completely safe, like at least another ten years or more.
