The weather might not be, but the sensation of lying in a bag, by the side of the road will be. It's more about getting comfortable using a bivvy in as many different situations as possible so I can get to sleep quicker, pick better/warmer/cooler spots quicker, etc.
Just had a thought - might take it to Oz with me! That's way more like the US in weather and bug terms.

The Rab Alpine is pretty good for Europe, but useless for the States as it has no bug net. Personally I wouldn't bother sleeping rough over here for TABR training, its in no way representative.
