It's for riding bikes around the country, not climbing mountains. There will be 3000m mountains in the US but I won't be sleeping at the top of them and it will be June so hopefully not -30degC.

If you are doing this in the US have a look at some of their Long Distance Trail sites. They have a lot more lightweight and ultra light weight stuff you don't see in the UK.
If you buy it there when you arrive it'll be a lot cheaper

Ahh... Didn't realise you weren't actually mountaineering with it. Just low level or town parks?
Have a look at the Outdoor Research Helium.
500g fully enclosed and has a small hoop to keep the fabric off your face when in it. It's Pertex so pretty windproof but you'll have some problem with moisture.
