What a lot of the others said, look in the classifieds and buy yourself a bike and some tools. 15mm spanner, set of allan keys, pedal spanner, chain breaker and one or two other bits means you'll be able to tinker and custom to your hearts content. You'll also learn a lot more. Be aware of phrases like "italian threaded", "italian threaded" and JIS.
Also at this time of year buy a decent lock and a some decent lights.
