  • That sort of Milky Way colour is doable without too much jiggery pokery on your computer. You will get more of a red response with a camera that has had its IR filter removed but that is a fiddly job. Accurate tracking and long exposures are needed, as well as a lack of light pollution. I'd be keen to see how your Milky Way shots are looking; I am off to a dark bit of Italy soon, armed with a 10mm lens and a tracking mount. One thing is certain, namely that I will have mosquito bites when I return.

    The one below was actually without a tracking mount but I had to boost the levels (and thus also the noise) to get it looking like this.
