• I'm not sure what you had agreed with the guys at Talbot, and that's non of my business (non of this is really) but I would in no way have gone in to this with any expectation of having the finished product in less than 18 months.
Dont really want to get into a debate here just stating my opion based on my experience within the world of custom frame building, which has been both frames for myself, and working with other builders and their customers.

  • Seems like (lack of) communication is the frustration here, not a complaint about the amount of time and effort put into it, or how awesome it will be when it's done. And think 7VEN is being fairly accepting of the 'it'll be done when it's done' timescale now.
It's fine for you and others with a lot more experience of frame building to come and say "you should be happy with 2 years" but I think it's fair enough to be frustrated at not being able to rely on the word of the maker. Contigency is one thing - sometimes things just take a bit longer. But this isn't just a bit. I work in design+make too (not bikes) and it's obvious client satisfaction relies hugely on expectation - whether of timescale or finished product - as much as anything else.
Sorry, I realise you don't want to get into a debate (nor do I, way over my head) but it feels like you're telling 7VEN that he shouldn't be annoyed (I think you should be happy if) which is kind of different to "in my experience I would expect this to take at least 18 months".
