Going to have to differ on this. Surely it's about managing expectations no? If you tell me it will be done in 4 months when the deposit is paid, then you'd not expect it to take 3x as long?

It's a tandem.
I side with @hoops on this, the fact it's a tandem on top of a custom is always going to take a while, and most especially since this is his first foray in building a tandem.
Plus, this is what you said 3 months ago;
I need to learn to be more patient and I know that you always get the best out of people if you leave them too it.

To be honest, I think you should be happy if you get this within two years of paying deposit. The amount of work and thought that's gone into it is immense.
Custom bikes take time. That's part of the deal. Especially when they involve the amount of custom one-off parts that this things got.
