Last year I managed to put hands on a Merckx Corsa Extra "team Stuttgart" frameset. My internet search for more information on the bike learned that back in 1989 Eddy sponsored quite some professional teams. All of them were equipped with the Corsa Extra frameset, the one having even nicer colour schemes than the other. I fell in love...
A couple of weeks ago, I spotted a Corsa Extra frameset from the same year but from another team so I just wanted that frameset. It took me a lot of work pursuading the seller to send it from the south of Germany to my place in Belgium but finally it arrived.
Number two from the '89 collection is a fact, more of them will follow. ;-)
The idea is to build this one as a "neo retro" bike. The reason: a "local hero" from where I lived as a child (former World Champion Claudy Criquilion) used to ride for this team so I will ride it as a tribute to him in the cyclesportive race that was named after him (http://www.velomediane.com).
