• That's a good way of unsticking the piston, make sure you got alcohol to clean the entire area first after you've finished your service.

    If you don't clean it properly, the oil will get into the pads and cause the brakes to squeal/burn out.

  • Good shout. Just a thought, but what happens if you do pop the pistons out? Are they easy enough to get back in? Was thinking it might be worthwhile to remove them completely, clean and check the seals, then reassemble and refill.

  • Then you better be fucking careful!

    Did that once on an Avid brakes, luckily wasn't tricky pushing it back in, but need to rebleed it.

    Not worth it when you're just maintaining the bike, mineral oil/dot should be sufficient to clean it back to full working order, if after several attempt cleaning the piston it's still as sticky as it was, then removing and clean the piston before resorting to getting a new calipers (unscrewing the body, not pressing the levers till it pop out).
