• Hi All, I'm having a bit of a fire sale and next up is a lovely vintage Dawes tourer. I'm not 100% which model it is, but a Dawes expert told me it's a Galaxy and checking the old Dawes catalogues online it looks most the like a Galaxy Model 30/10 (see screenshot below).

I originally bought this Dawes as a bit of a project to use on L'Eroica a couple of years back, so serviced it thoroughly and switched out a few parts, but then didn't actually do the ride. Since then it's been used for a summer of light commuting and occasional rides. Everything works fine, and the bike is really comfy.

The frame is in good condition overall, no dents or cracks, although when I bought it I did notice a sort of ridge on the steerer tube, but the the previous owner said it'd always been there. I showed it to frame builder Winston Vaz and he thought it was stable and in the two years I've owned it, the "ridge" hasn't changed, and I've included a picture of it below. Not sure if the tubing is Reynolds 531 as the decals have rubbed off, but the bike is quite light, and sizewise the seat tube is 57cm C-T, and top tube is 58cm C-C.

Moving on the front and rear mechs and downtube shifters are all Simplex Prestige. The cockpit is all made by GB, with a nice pantographed stem and rare randonneur bars. The bars unusual shape makes them super comfy on longer rides.

The brakeset is Weinmann, the callipers in particular are the higher quality Weinmann 750 Vainqueur 999 model. The chainset is a cottered Stronglight one and the pedals are vintage MKS ARS-1 quills which spin nice and smoothly. Other than that the saddle is a more modern Brooks B17 Standard in Honey Brown and in good shape. The wheelset are Weinmann 27" alloy rims on Weinmann hubs.

Before selling I fitted some new Schwalbe gum wall tyres with Active Line puncture protection, some fresh handlebar tape and a pair of those short mudguards, so the bike is ready to roll.

Similar bikes seem to sell for around £250-300, but I'm looking for a quick sale and would like £150 now was £175, but let me know if that's unreasonable and show me an offer. The bike's in London E14, happy to meet for a test ride or viewing, collection preferred but can ship if necessary, cheers Kev.
