your responses have been quite sane, its just the spend spend spend mentality that others are espousing!
descending is more about knowing the correct velocity to enter into a turn. and also how to use your body and position to keep control in the corners. its fine to watch videos and learn the theory but having a coach work with you on it is much better they can identify and give appropriate feedback. my partner and I have done a couple of MTB skills training sessions and they have improved our control, confidence, energy management and understanding immeasurably.

sparky, you could get some training on how to descend. it always amazes me that peoples first response to a new challenge is to spend money rather the train/upskill/get fitter.
