I think the biggest win would be if the buses were converted to non poullting forms......eg hydrogren (no idea how this works though) or electric which would avoid the challenges described above. I personally find cycling near cars bad but not terrible.....cycling behind the exhaust pipe of a bus is a pretty grim experience and I worry for the state of my lungs....
I also find the news stories on pollution are particularly strange when they show India or China......Oxford Street on a busy day has got to be as bad as anywhere in the world
