Ahead of the vote, Conservative peer Lord Bourne warned his colleagues against voting down a measure that was a “clear manifesto commitment” by a democratically elected Government.
“If we really do wish to maintain the traditions of this House and the role we fulfil, we have to move very carefully in relation to the territory we are in,” he said.

This government likes to describe HoL as unelected, despite only taking 36.9% of a 66.1% turnout... 24.4% of the electorate.

As much as it pains me to say it, they're elected under the system we have. It's the system that sucks, wholeheartedly. And our elected government, who have so far:
- Sold our energy security to the Chinese
- Plunged 3 million poor families into even deeper poverty
- continued the dismantling of the NHS with a long term view towards at least partial privatisation
- removed the subsidies on renewable energy sources whilst keeping those on fossil fuels, hastening both the country's and the planets decline into oblivion
- attempted to destroy the BBC, the only major media outlet in the country who everyone listens to that reports the news in a relatively unbiased manner
- adjusted taxation to make it harder for small businesses whilst refusing to clamp down on tax for large corporations
- not done a damn thing about the shortcomings of the banking industry
- continued to accelerate the housing crisis
What have I forgotten?
