How will you be training for this race?
Good question. ;-)
I've been doing mountainbike competition in the past (untill 1998) so I know a bit what needs to be done. And after I retired from competitive cycling, a got a trainer degree so now I even should know better. ;-)
I never really stopped cycling and the past 10 years I've been riding road cyclosportives (165-175 km with altitude gains up to 4500 m) so I already have a certain basic fitness. But as I have a job and family and time for hobbies is limited, I'm aware this will need a bit of a different approach.
I'm starting running training next week and that will be my main training untill february (2 times a week; starting with 5 km and gradually build up to 15-20 km, both on and offroad). In weekends I have time for a longer ride (up to 3 hrs) and weather will be determining what kind of training I will do (road or offroad). During week I have time for 1 extra training and that will be a turbotraining or a training on the track (mainly HIIT).
From february on I will shift the emphasis to longer endurance training but that's when time will be even more a limiter (as I don't have the time to do rides longer than 5 hrs).
And ofcourse I will have to add some specific training to restore my technical skills.
