Thanks, good to know. It's not actually listed on the English Heritage Site (although looking round my local area to see what's on there was pretty interesting).
The houses round the corner are listed grade 2 but there's nothing I can find about the one we're looking at. Another query to forward on to the solicitor. Maybe it was a condition of the planning permission that the front of the building remained intact rather than it being specifically listed?

You can search for what exactly is listed via the English Heritage website. In general if its listed you'll need listed building consent to do anything other than minor repairs in a like for like manner.
