The front of the building is listed but from what the estate agent said (historically not the most trustworthy of people I know) it should only affect us if we want to put new windows in. I'll also ask my solicitor to check the planning permission.

You can search for what exactly is listed via the English Heritage website. In general if its listed you'll need listed building consent to do anything other than minor repairs in a like for like manner.

Thanks, good to know. It's not actually listed on the English Heritage Site (although looking round my local area to see what's on there was pretty interesting).

The houses round the corner are listed grade 2 but there's nothing I can find about the one we're looking at. Another query to forward on to the solicitor. Maybe it was a condition of the planning permission that the front of the building remained intact rather than it being specifically listed?

If it's part of the planning permission chances are you can get the docs online. Just search for the address on the planning portal and you should be set.
