I just use a normal messenger bag for normal people. We've discussed the "where do you put the straps" issue on here before, and the consensus was that "everybody does it differently", probably because everybody is shaped differently and has different preferences.
Just get her something reasonably big and funky and be prepared to not be completely heartbroken if she decides to sell it on because she can't make it work in some way. I've gone through approximately 10 gazillion different bags because I decide I don't like the one I have for some reason or other (annoying straps, sits in the wrong place, sweaty back, etc).
