• This isn't really an English-language problem as it's a valid structure, but I realised last night that I've begun to really hate sentences that begin with "as a...".

    "As a cyclist, my opinion on this sofa needs to be taken particularly seriously"
    "As a parent, I can safely say that this toaster is better than that other toaster"
    "As a trans woman, I will not be purchasing this brand of sugar ever again"

    FUCK. OFF. Even if the "as a" is relevant to the opinion that follows, it still annoys me. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the combination of smugness and the overuse of a stylistic tic?
