I've done it before, albeit with a cheap Pro-Lite job. Used a hand drill, nice drill-bits and a steady hand. Didn't take long, but they didn't have a rod going from front to rear like some others (Alpina) have.
6mm hole at front, 8mm at rear for modern recessed nut fixing.
